Deledda Grazia was born in a middle class Italian
family and was largely self-educated. She had developed interest in
writing and became a writer by choice. She wrote her first stories at
the age of 17 and the stories were based on various folklores.
She sought into fame with her novel,
Elias Portolu and wrote several novels, short stories
thereafter. Her themes hovered around love, pain and death and were
set against rough conditions of Sardinia where she grew up.
Canne al Vento published in 1913 was one of her best works.
Cosima,
an autobiographical novel, was published posthumously in 1937.
